Hi, I’ m Fumi. I went to Harajyuku for the first time in 10 years, I’ve never been to Meiji Jingu, so finally I went there!
Surprisingly, there are many tall big trees so I heard bird singing and sound of water flowing. Meiji Jingu is in Harajyuku that is famous for youth fashionable shopping street. So, Harajyuku is energetic place.
On the other hand, Meiji Jingu is not busy spot. Quiet and rich in nature. It’s like we are in another world. A lady told me that tear run down on her face when she saw Meiji Jingu.
I think that Meiji Jingu has some power to purify your mind. This sacred place is kept clean, I didn’t see any fallen leaves on a street from the gate to shrine.
4 Things to see and experience at Meiji Jingu
First, you can see the biggest and oldest torii in Japan. Torii stand at the entrance of shrine, symbolize of the borderline between our world and the world of God. Most torii color is red, but torii in Meiji Jingu weren’t colored. You see two old wooden torii and one new wooden torii.
Second, there are bunch of sake barrels are displayed near a souvenir shop. They are consecrated to the Shinto deities. (Shinto means a Japanese religion in which people worship past members of their family and various gods that represent nature.) Thank them for the rich harvest.
Then, it’s also a popular for wedding ceremonies. You have a good luck, if you see Japanese traditional kimono wedding. Because it’s not held every day.
Finally, you can try to put Japanese wedding kimono on! You’ll enjoy wearing it and take pictures a lot! Pictures remind you wonderful memories in Meiji Jingu, Tokyo.
