Hi, I’m Fumi.
When you come to Tokyo, Japan, did you exchange money into Japanese yen? I exchanged Japanese yen into dollars at Bank in Japan before I visited Minnesota, U.S.A.
If you didn’t have time to exchange currency, you can exchange money at airport in your country or an airport in Japan. But you need to exchange money more while you trip in Tokyo, you can visit Tokyo Station to exchange your money into Japanese yen.
It’s easy to get there while you are anywhere in Tokyo. Because you’ll pass or transfer Tokyo Station once or sometimes while you tour in Tokyo.
Exchange Dollars and Ponds into Japanese Yen in Tokyo
These currency exchange counters take care of 33 currencies. So you can exchange your countries money here. I exchanged 200 dollars and pond to Japanese yen at Tokyo Station.
My granpa gave me 200 dollars when I was a student so it was 25 years ago!! Amazing! That means these dollars were old. And 15 ponds were old too, because I went to England when I was in university.
So I had been afraid and may not be exchanged these moneys. Fortunately, 200 dollars and 10 pond were exchanged into Japanese yen except 5 pond. I got secret savings, 21,000 yen. Hooray! Just kidding.
You need cash many places in Japan, because we have many shops that don’t accept credit card payments. Especially, you have to pay cash at park and zoo.
You can’t buy or eat anything you want without cash. I think you’d better exchange money extra in case you can’t use your credit card.
How to get the Currency Exchange Counter in Tokyo Station
There are 2 Currency Exchange Counters at Tokyo Station. One is located the first floor, outside the Marunouchi North Gate. It’s in JR EAST Travel Service Center and easy to find it, because you’ll see pictures of money in front of the counter.
You can look around Marunouchi buildings and the Imperial Palace soon from here. The other is located the underground Tokyo station, we call the place GRANSTA. Inside the gate and near Yaesu Underground Central Gate.
It’s next to the Information, Station Concierge Tokyo. You can enjoy buying Japanese delicious bento or sweets as souvenirs in that floor. And you can enjoy eating Ramen and Japanese famous food after you go through the Yaesu Underground Central Gate.
After I exchanged dollars and ponds at underground in Tokyo Station, some of foreign tourists were in line and exchanged their money. In front of the counter, you can put your baggage in coin lockers.
